Blackjack Rules: Learn How to Play Easily
Blackjack is one of the most popular and captivating card games in the casino. Unlike other games of chance, you have a real role to play here. Rest assured, the basic rules are very simple for a beginner to master.
Here is everything you need to know to start playing and have a great time around the table.
The Goal of the Game
In Blackjack, you do not play against the other players, but only against the dealer (the house). Your objective is to beat their hand without ever exceeding a total of 21 points. If you go over 21, you lose your bet immediately.
Card Values
Calculating your points is very simple:
- From 2 to 10: cards retain their face value.
- Jack, Queen, King (Face Cards): they are all worth 10 points.
- The Ace: this is the magic card. It is worth either 1 point or 11 points, depending on what benefits your hand the most.
How a Round Works
- The Initial Bet: before the deal, you place your chips on the table.
- The Deal: the dealer distributes two face-up cards to each player, and two cards to themselves (usually one face-up and one face-down).
- The Player's Turn: this is your moment. Based on your two cards, you must choose your action.
- The Dealer's Turn: once all players have finished, the dealer reveals their face-down card. The dealer must draw cards until they reach at least 17 points and must stop as soon as they do.
Your Gameplay Options
When it is your turn, you have several choices:
- Hit: you request an additional card to get closer to 21. You can ask for as many as you want, as long as you do not exceed 21.
- Stand: you keep your current cards and end your turn.
- Double Down: you double your initial bet, but you receive only one single additional card.
- Split: if you receive two identical cards (for example, two 8s), you can split them to play with two separate hands. You must then add a bet equal to the first one.
How to Win?
- You have a Blackjack (an Ace and a 10-value card) from the start: you win 1.5 times your bet (unless the dealer also has Blackjack, which results in a tie/push).
- Your total is higher than the dealer's without exceeding 21: you win 1 time your bet.
- The dealer goes over 21 (busts): all players still in the game win.
